Shifting is a piece inspired by the minimalism in Steve Reich’s composition Clapping Music, by John Adams’ Lollapalooza, and Reich’s Piano Phase. I really enjoyed how creative and rhythmic these pieces of music can be even with a minimal amount of musical material. This is explored in my composition through the addition of scale degrees, speeding up the tempo, expanding the attack of notes, and changing the duration of notes for the electronic parts.
